Trip to Mars
Elon Musk is very rich. He owns a technology company named SpaceX. At a meeting about space travel in Mexico, he told everybody about his plan to bring people to Mars. He said his company is making a spaceship that can bring many people to Mars.
He says in the future he sees many people living there in a city. But he thinks it will be difficult to make the price low so people will want to go. He thinks the price for the first trip will be 100,000 or 200,000 US dollars.
SpaceX wants to fly to Mars one time every two years. These are times when Earth and Mars are closest together. Elon Musk said he wants the first trip to be in 2024. But NASA does not plan to send a person to Mars for the first time until ten years after that.
Musk says it will be difficult to get money for the project. Making the spaceship will cost around 10 billion US dollars.
Mars has no air. It is about 225 million Kilometers away from Earth, but this change because planets move around the sun. After flying to Mars, landing on the planet and trying to live there is a very difficult goal. Elon Musk says that they cannot promise that people who go on the trip will live.
